At Phi Sigma Kappa Alpha Chapter, we highly value philanthropy and service to others. It is for this reason that we've become so involved on campus and with our national philanthropy. What we do exactly ranges from pure volunteerism in places like food kitchens and community clean up walks to more formal fundraising events such as our partner and solo events.
Annual March for Babies 5K
Every Fall we host the annual UMass 5K March for Babies (formally the Run for Research), in partnership with the non-profit March of Dimes New England Chapter and Chi Omega's UMass Chapter. Money raised at the the event benefits the March of Dimes, whose mission statement is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. These events are always a success due to the effort of not only the brothers, but the sisters and community members involved. During Fall 2016 the March for Babies 5K raised a record $10,000.
In addition to our March for Babies 5K, we host a number of other fundraising events for great causes such as the Special Olympics, Parkinson's Research, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and many others! Our brothers can also frequently be found attending philanthropy events hosted by our friends in other fraternities and sororities. We have high attendance at IFC street cleanups and many brothers volunteer their own time even further beyond this.
Currently, our chapter is focused on fundraising for the upcoming spring 2018 UMass For The Kids Dance Marathon which all Greek organizations participate in. Last year we raised over $10,000 for it making us one of the top fundraising fraternities on campus. This year our goals are set even higher.
